DPS urges renewal applicants to complete their paperwork for the renewal application process on their web site: www.texasonline.com. This decreases administrative time and cost while decreasing the time to receive your license. During the registration process, you will need to pay the state fee with an approved credit card.
Renewal class will begin promptly at 7:00 am with check in starting 6:30am at the entrance to the Bass Pro Shop. On entering the store, RENEWALS will need to display their valid CHL license to the gate keeper. This will prevent having to have a trigger lock placed on your weapon. All weapons and magazines will be unloaded inside the range prior to your relays actual qualification starting.
As the store is closed to the public during this check in period, there will be no admission to the store after 7:20 am. Renewal classes will generally end around noon, give or take a few minutes.
New pictures and fingerprints are no longer required for renewal applicants.
If you have not yet received your renewal notification within 5 to 6 months ahead of the license expiration date (on your birthday), you will need to call DPS (1 800 224 5744) and request one be sent to you. If you have moved, the post office will not forward the notification.
Renewal applicants can renew their license within six (6) months of the expiration date. Often, people wait until a month ahead of the expiration date, but this will probably result in being unlicensed for a period of time while waiting for the new license. As soon as you receive your renewal notification from DPS it is advisable to make arrangements to renew soon thereafter. Renewals actually have 1 year from the expiration date to renew, but will be considered unlicensed after the expiration date. Failing to renew within one (1) year after expiration they will be considered as new applicants by DPS with the appropriate new applicant fees charged.
